Founded by 9-year-old Sophia Benintende in 2022 while in remission from Ewing Sarcoma, Sophia the Fierce Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to making a difference for pediatric cancer patients. Sophia, known for her fierce spirit and philanthropy, inspired the mission of providing “respite, research, and relief” to support cancer kids and their families.
Respite: Sophia believed in the healing power of nature and dreamed of offering private outdoor escapes for children and their families to connect, unwind, and create lasting memories. The organization currently arranges outdoor retreats for local families, with hopes of one day having a dedicated getaway house for pediatric cancer patients and their loved ones.
Research: Recognizing the need for better treatment options, Sophia the Fierce Inc. allocates funds to pediatric cancer research. With only 4% of federal research dollars directed toward pediatric cancers, their efforts aim to provide children with the effective treatments they deserve.
Relief: From financial aid for travel costs to uplifting experiences like game-day outings, the organization works with social workers to provide essential support for local cancer families. This relief, both large and small, helps ease the burdens these families face during treatment.
As our 2024 Truck Wrap Contest Winner, Sophia’s mission and legacy are proudly displayed on our trucks. For every tune-up completed, we donate $25 to further support Sophia’s goals, helping bring light to families facing some of life’s darkest challenges.
One of the biggest ways Cellino Plumbing Heating, Cooling & Electric gives back to the local community is through our Annual Truck Wrap Contest. Each year, we host a contest that mimics March Madness. Nonprofit organizations are nominated for the contest and then added to a voting bracket where they go head-to-head with competing organizations. The community can participate and vote on the bracket throughout the entirety of the contest. The winner of the Truck Wrap Contest then has the opportunity to design a custom-wrap for one of our Cellino Plumbing & HVAC trucks. Along with that, the winning organization receives 5% of that truck’s revenue for a whole year!
