What Causes a Furnace to Click?

urnace Repair Buffalo NY of Cellino Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Experts

HVAC systems can often be very noisy, and in most cases, it is nothing serious or that you need to worry about. However, if your furnace starts making unusual sounds, such as clicking noises, there are a few common things that may be causing this.
Odd clicking noises could indicate that there’s a variety of issues occurring inside your furnace. Here are some possible causes:

  • Ignition System- Gas furnaces have a part called a spark ignitor, which is in charge of lighting the burners to produce heat. If this piece is damaged or not working properly, it could cause a clicking noise.
  • Gas Valve Problem- If the clicking noise coming from the furnace seems to be happening at random times or with no sort of pattern, it is likely an issue with the gas valve. If your gas meter is not working properly, the gas company should come by to inspect the issue and possibly replace the meter.
  • Worn-Out Bearings- There are numerous bearings located inside the motor of a furnace. Over time, these bearings can become worn out, which in turn creates a clicking noise. If worn-out bearings are not taken care of right away, the furnace motor can burn itself out.
