Helpful Tips to Keep Your Home Comfortable During the Holidays

Helpful-Tips-to-Keep-Your-Home-Comfortable

The holidays can be a hectic time of year, with gatherings and guests coming in from out of town. There’s so much excitement and activity happening, and the last thing you want to worry about is whether your home is ready for all the action! To make this holiday season extra special for everyone involved (you included!), follow these simple tips on how best to maintain comfort levels in your home during the festivities.

Weatherproof Your Home
Weatherproofing your home before guests arrive is an easy way to ensure that they remain comfortable during their stay. Check out these simple upgrades that can make all the difference:

  • Caulking leaks around windows and doors
  • Applying fabric draft blockers under doors for an insulating barrier
  • Insulating the attic
  • Sealing air-leaks with weather-stripping, caulk, or insulation
  • Turning off the pilot light for the gas fireplace when it’s not being used
  • Sealing off the flue for the fireplace to keep cold air from entering and warm air from escaping

Avoid Heating Unused Rooms
Of course, keeping your guests happy is a priority, but you don’t want to break the bank while doing so! To save money on energy bills this holiday season, a helpful tip would be to close all heating vents in unused rooms. This includes bedrooms, storage rooms, or hallways so that you can concentrate heat in the rooms where it’s needed most.

Adjust Thermostat For Overnight Guests
Contrary to popular belief, studies show that 65 degrees is the best indoor temperature for sleeping. By turning the thermostat down a few degrees during the night, you can help keep your guests comfortable while cutting down on energy bills. It is predicted that for every degree you lower your thermostat, you can end up saving 4%-5% on energy costs.

Remember The Little Details!
As you prepare for the upcoming holiday season, don’t forget about the tiny details that will keep your guests feeling welcome! You can do plenty of small things to make your home feel extra cozy for your guests.

For overnight stays or drop-in visits from friends and family- have a well-stocked kitchen available with all the “necessities.” This includes coffee, tea, creamer, milk, butter, and eggs. Keep your guests well-fed and happy by providing plenty of options for grab-and-go foods, like fruit bowls, bagged snacks, and an assortment of cereal options. Make sure you also stock up your fridge with some easy grabbers like yogurt and cheese so that everyone can fill their bellies with minimal effort.

A well-maintained, inviting bathroom will make your guest’s stay with you extra enjoyable! For overnight guests, be sure to provide them with plenty of clean towels, bathrobes, and linens. Keep hand soap and fresh hand towels in stock as well!
